Find the email

Look for the notification that your archive is ready. Check your inbox and your spam folder.

💡 These emails sometimes arrive in a thread with earlier notifications from when you made the request. Scroll past those to find the one that says your file is ready.

Click the download link in the email

Open the email and click "Download your information" (Facebook) or "Download your data" (Instagram). Both will open Meta's download center in your browser.

If they ask you to confirm your identity before releasing the file, go ahead — it's a standard security check.

Download your files

You'll land on a page showing your available files. Download every file listed in JSON format — skip anything in HTML format.

Each file saves to your computer as a .zip. Don't open or unzip it — just leave it and upload it as is.

Facebook often splits large exports across several zip files (File 1 of 3, etc.). Download all of them — your gallery won't be complete if any are missing.

Open a new tab and go to Meta's download center. Pick the one that matches your account:

Facebook → facebook.com/dyi

Instagram → accountscenter.instagram.com/info_and_permissions/dyi/

Sign in if asked

If you're not already logged in, sign in with your Facebook or Instagram account. You'll land back on the Available Copies page once you're in.

If your archive isn't listed yet, it's still being prepared — check back in a few hours.

Common questions

Should I download the JSON or HTML version of my archive?

Download every file in JSON format and skip anything in HTML. JSON is the format everkept can read; the HTML version can't be used. Each file saves as a .zip — leave it zipped and upload it as is.

Why are there several zip files instead of one?

Facebook often splits large exports across several zip files (File 1 of 3, and so on). Download all of them — your gallery won't be complete if any are missing.

How long do the download links last?

The download links from Facebook and Instagram expire after 4 days. Download your files now and upload them whenever you're ready — once they're on your computer, there's no rush.

Do I need to unzip the file before uploading it?

No. Don't open or unzip it — just leave each .zip file as is and upload it that way. everkept reads the zip directly.

I don't see the email — can I still get my file?

Yes. You can go straight to Meta's download center and find your archive under Available copies: open Facebook or Instagram settings, then Accounts Center, then Your information and permissions, then Download your information. If your archive isn't listed yet, it's still being prepared — check back in a few hours.
